RBC Welcomes Proposals for After-School Grants

RBC Financial Group is inviting charities across Canada that offer after-school programs to apply for grants of up to $40,000 for the 2003-2004 school year.
Since 1999, RBC has funded community-based after-school programs that offer a range of structured, supervised activities that provide children with a safe environment as well as opportunities to develop greater social skills. RBC has committed up to $640,000 in new funding for 2003.
The deadline for proposals is Thursday, May 1, 2003.
Charities requesting funding should offer activities such as computer instruction, sports, literacy tutoring, music and art lessons, nutrition guidance, and homework-help. RBC believes that these activities provide children with opportunities to gain an area of competence outside of academics and ultimately benefit their self-esteem.
RBC already funds 54 of the best after-school programs across Canada, and we continue to look for quality programs that are in need of funding. As such, RBC has sent "requests for proposals" for 2003 to not-for-profit groups and community leaders across Canada. Employees are also asked to share information about the new funding with local community groups that might qualify for a grant.
Eligible applications will be judged competitively by regional selection panels comprised of experts in the areas of youth and education, in June 2003. Winners will be announced by August 2003.
RBC's After-School Grants program is part of the company's overall commitment to helping youth stay in school.
