As pre-teens approach the eventful period known as puberty, it is often recognized that addressing these important changes is not always easy. The Changing Program is a school-based resource designed to help ease the transition between childhood and adolescence for boys and girls in grades 5 and 6. Targeting the delicate topics of adolescent growth, development, personal-appearance habits and self-esteem during puberty, this education program, which is available in English and French, can be beneficial to students and parents, as well as instructors by addressing the Healthy Living strand in the Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum Policy.
The program comes complete with worksheets, quizzes, crosswords, and other fun resources and teaching strategies for girls and boys in grades 5 and 6, and also contains a booklet with information relevant to parents. Designed to be useful to male and female students in a balanced manner, the Changing Program is aimed at helping answer questions kids, as well as many parents, have about the changes they are experiencing.
The program is provided free of charge to schools as an educational service by the makers of Always, Tampax, Clearasil, Secret and Old Spice products. When ordering, free product samples are included as well.
Procter & Gamble Inc., in association with the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (Ophea) and the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD), have developed a Canadian Implementation Supplement to use with the Changing program.
