The Alberta Centre for Active Living is a key advocate of physical activity for all Albertans and a primary source of research and education on physical activity for practitioners, organizations, and decision-makers. The centre's mandate is to improve the health and quality of life of Albertans through physical activity.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada work with families and other adults to provide safe, caring environments and stimulating programs, which has enabled some three million young Canadians to play, learn and develop valuable life skills that have empowered them to achieve their full potential as adults, citizens and leaders. They provide young people, ages 6 - 24, with opportunities and experiences that allow them to pursue their interests, discover their abilities and follow their dreams.
Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD)
CAHPERD is a national, charitable, voluntary-sector organization whose primary concern is to influence the healthy development of children and youth by advocating for quality, school-based physical and health education.
Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute (CFLRI)
CFLRI is a national research agency concerned with advising, educating, and informing Canadians and professionals about the importance of leading healthy, active lifestyles. CFLRI works toward improving the quality of life of Canadians and they contribute to resolving health, societal, and economic issues facing Canada.
CHEO-HALO
CHEO-HALO provides national leadership and research excellence in Healthy Active Living for the prevention and treatment of obesity and youth. The group contributes to the understanding of healthy body weights and prevention of obesity by developing and evaluating innovative strategies to treat and manage obesity and its related health consequences. Their ultimate goal is to reduce the prevalence of obesity and its social burden.
Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance of Canada
The Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance (CDPAC) is a networked community of organizations and individuals who share a common vision for chronic disease prevention in Canada. CDPAC works to foster and help sustain a coordinated, countrywide movement towards an integrated population health approach for prevention of chronic diseases in Canada through collaborative leadership, advocacy, and capacity building.
Coalition for Active Living
The Coalition for Active Living is comprised of hundreds of organizations, groups, and individuals committed to ensuring that the environments where we live, learn, work and play support regular physical activity. The Coalition is working to achieve this goal by advocating for public policies that support physical activity.
The College of Family Physicians of Canada
The College of Family Physicians of Canada is a national voluntary organization of family physicians that makes continuing medical education of its members mandatory. The College strives to improve the health of Canadians by promoting high standards of medical education and care in family practice, by contributing to public understanding of healthful living, by supporting ready access to family physician services, and by encouraging research and disseminating knowledge about family medicine.
Concerned Children’s Advertisers
Concerned Children’s Advertisers (CCA) is a national, non-profit organization of 25 Canadian companies who responsibly market and advertise products and services to children and their families. CCA strives to combine marketing to children with the social responsibility of caring for children. CCA actively works in partnership with government, educators, parents and issue experts to identify issues of concern in children's lives and deliver solutions to help children.
Dietitians of Canada
Dietitians of Canada (DC) is an association of food and nutrition professionals committed to the health and well-being of Canadians. The nationwide voice of dieticians, DC supports its members to take action to improve health through food and nutrition strategies - shaping policy, providing services, and encouraging research.
Go For Green
Go for Green is a national non-profit, charitable organization encouraging Canadians to pursue healthy, outdoor physical activities while being good environmental citizens.
Public Health Agency of Canada's Physical Activity Guides
Health Canada’s Physical Activity Guides for Children and Youth provide national guidelines to improve the physical activity levels of kids aged 6-9 and 10-14. Guides are available for both families and teachers that include easy activity ideas and useful tips to help children and youth increase their physical activity.
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada
The Heart and Stroke Foundation is a national voluntary non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health of Canadians by preventing and reducing disability and death from heart disease and stroke through research, health promotion and advocacy. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is a Federation of 10 independent Provincial Foundations and one National Office, led and supported by a force of more than 130,000 volunteers.
International Year of Sport and Physical Education
2005 has been declared as the International Year of Sport and Physical Education. CAHPERD is taking the lead in hopes to increase awareness about the important role that quality physical education programs have on the healthy development of our children and youth. Through programs, activities and events they hope that quality physical education programs will be a regular part of all schools across Canada.
National Children’s Alliance
National Children’s Alliance (NCA) is a nationwide not-for-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote and support communities in providing a coordinated investigation and comprehensive response to victims of severe child abuse. NCA provides services to Children's Advocacy Centers, multidisciplinary teams, and professionals across the country.
Ophea (Ontario Physical and Health Education Association)
Ophea (Ontario Physical and Health Education Association) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting school communities through advocacy, quality programs and services, and partnership building. Ophea is led by the vision that all kids will value, participate in, and make a lifelong commitment to active, healthy living.
ParticipACTION
ParticipACTION is the national voice for physical activity and sport participation in Canada. Originally established in 1971, ParticipACTION was relaunched in 2007 to help address the looming inactivity and obesity crisis that faces Canada. As a national not-for-profit organization solely dedicated to inspiring and supporting active and healthy living for Canadians, it will work with its partners, which include sport, physical activity, recreation organizations, government and corporate sponsors, to inspire and support Canadians to move more. ParticipACTION is generously supported by Sport Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
Sport Matters
The SMG is a voluntary group of individuals who have come together to talk about the important contribution that sport makes to society, and to collaborate on various sport policy issues on an ad hoc basis. The Group has actively worked together on the Canadian Sport Policy, the new Sport and Physical Activity Act, and on increasing the resources available for sport in Canada.
YMCA Canada
YMCA, a charity that is over 150 years old, is dedicated to helping people attain good health through a healthy lifestyle and encouraging them to get involved in making their community a better place for everyone. Their concept of health focuses on prevention, rehabilitation, self-management and the social support needed to grow in spirit, mind and body. It’s a place where friendships are formed and family ties are strengthened.
