Your children are vulnerable to certain illnesses and diseases. Their immune system is much weaker compared to adults. As parents, it is your primary responsibility to feed them with healthy foods, teach them about proper hygiene, and take care of them. On the other hand, children getting sick is inevitable. It is important that you are aware of the certain illnesses that may attack your children and the treatment for these certain conditions:

Sore throat

Sore throats are common among children, especially babies and toddlers. It can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, or by certain environmental conditions like dry air. Sore throats are characterized by a scratchy and burning feeling in the throat that is usually painful. Other symptoms include a hoarse voice, trouble swallowing, and appetite loss.

In cases of a sore throat, bring your child to the doctor. They will check the throat and prescribe certain medications.

Ear Pain

Some children also experience sudden ear pain. It can be caused by an ear infection (external or internal), pressure from a cold or sinus infection, tooth pain, and others. If your child complains of ear pain accompanied with fever, bring her to an ear specialist. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics to treat bacterial-driven ear pain.

Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary Tract Infection or UTI is one of the most disturbing conditions among children. Based on a 2008 systematic review, 7% of infants and 8% of children two years old and above experience UTI.  UTI is caused by bladder infections or accumulation of bacteria in the urinary tract. Children with UTI may experience difficulty in urinating, accompanied by severe fever. In this case, the doctor will need a urine sample. Hydration, along with medication is the treatment of UTI.

Skin Infection

Most children experience skin infection in their life. The most common are skin rashes. Rashes are caused by viruses or bacteria. Other skin infections include ringworm, chickenpox, impetigo, heat rash, and dermatitis.

 All of these skin infections are characterized by annoyingly itchy feeling that may affect your children’s normal interaction with people. Dermatologists may prescribe medication that will control the itch and eliminate virus and bacteria that are causing the infection.


Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes. It can be acute or chronic. When a child has bronchitis, she will experience difficulty in breathing. It can also be accompanied by a cough, fatigue, and slight fever. In case of chronic bronchitis, the child will be more susceptible to lung infections, including pneumonia. To prevent your child from acquiring bronchitis, bring them away from places with cigarette smoke. Teach them to wash their hands regularly and let them wear surgical mask especially in public places.

Common Cold

Every child experience common cold. As a matter of fact, a child can get an average of 8 colds per year. It is caused by viral infection in the upper respiratory tract. To prevent them from getting colds, feed them with superfoods that will boost their immune system.
